Mewtwo is Coming to Pokemon GO

Pokemon-loving players who have stuck with the biggest mobile game in history continue to be rewarded for it. Pokemon GO, which recently celebrated its one-year anniversary, finally got legendary Pokemon into the mix, and that trend will continue when none other than Mewtwo is added to the game in the coming weeks.

Thanks to trainers at a Pokemon GO Stadium event in Yokohama, Japan, who were able to defeat and catch Mewtwo, players worldwide will soon be able to do the same through the game’s new exclusive raid battle feature. These battles are similar to the recently added raid battles, with a few key differences: You’ll need an invitation to join an exclusive raid battle, and you’ll only receive an invite if you’ve already successfully completed a raid (by defeating the raid boss) at the gym where the exclusive raid battle will be taking place. Invitations will include advance warning of the exclusive raid location so you’ll have time to put a team together before taking on the incredibly powerful raid boss.

Mewtwo is the first opponent up in these exclusive raid battles, but other powerful Pokemon will be following in its footsteps, hatching from raid eggs at exclusive battle locations over the next few weeks. Better start powering up your Pokes and assembling your friends now, because Mewtwo is not going down without a fight.

Pokemon GO devs Niantic also announced today that the game’s four recently added legendary birds will be sticking around a bit longer: Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres and Lugia, who cycled in and out of the game over the past few weeks, will now be available to fight and catch in raid battles from Aug. 14-31.

Watch out for legendaries at a gym near you, and find more info in Niantic’s announcement.
