Amy Adams Cast in The Woman in the Window From Director Joe Wright

Five-time Academy Award-nominated actress Amy Adams will star in the adaptation of the psychological thriller novel The Woman in the Window, per THR, which, as previously announced, will be helmed by Joe Wright.

The novel debuted early this year, and garnered a ton of buzz and praise for its smart narrative, use of Hitchcock-ian elements and sophistication. The story, in true Rear Window fashion, follows a child psychologist, Anna (Adams), who suffers from agoraphobia, thus refusing to leave her house. Anna witnesses a violent crime involving the charming family who moved in next door but of course no one, not even the police, believes her, forcing her to question herself. Her world begins to crumble, revealing shocking secrets hidden from time and leaving the audience to wonder what is real, what is imagined, who is in danger, who is in control and who they can trust.

Adams will be seen this summer in HBO’s forthcoming limited series Sharp Objects, which just unveiled its thrilling first teaser, as well as in Adam McKay’s Dick Cheney biopic Backseat, where she plays Lynne Cheney, and Disney’s Enchanted 2, to name a few. She received her first Oscar nomination for the 2005 indie film Junebug and has since received Best Supporting Actress nominations for 2008’s Doubt, 2010’s The Fighter and 2012’s The Master, and a Best Actress nomination for 2013’s American Hustle.

Wright is coming off his Oscar-winning film Darkest Hour and is best known for directing Atonement, Anna Karenina and, of course, Pride and Prejudice, all with Keira Knightley. Tracy Letts, author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning August, Osage County, wrote the script based on A.J. Finn’s novel, with Scott Rudin and Eli Bush producing, and Fox 2000 backing.

No word on when production will start for this project, but stay tuned for more updates.
