Big Freedia Announces Joint Tour with Roots-Rockers Low Cut Connie

New Orleans bounce queen Big Freedia announced the joint “Azz Across America” tour with South Philly roots-rockers Low Cut Connie Thursday, which is probably her most left-field live collaboration since her 2017 shows with LCD Soundsystem.

Big Freedia loves to be paired up with the unexpected (she once sang a sea shanty with Broken Social Scene) and, true to form, her high-octane dance music is an odd pairing with the bluesy Memphis rock of Low Cut Connie. They do have one thing in common, though: energetic, rowdy live shows that have made both their sets must-see experiences. The tour will include collaborations between the artists that promise to be appealingly bizarre.

Low Cut Connie frontman Adam Weiner said in a statement that “Freedia is an inspiring performer and I cant wait to share the stage with him and make some beautiful stuff happen. Asses will be shook and hearts will be melted. These will be wild, uplifting shows for all the boys and girls. These are intense times in the USA. Me and Freedia wanna bring together all kinds of people, shake them up and uplift them. Feeling joy together is an audacious response to chaos and disharmony.”

Big Freedia said simply that “fans better be ready for some wild shit. We are going to shake our asses off.”

Big Freedia’s last release was 2018’s back-to-basics EP 3rd Ward Bounce. Low Cut Connie dropped their fifth album Dirty Pictures (Part 2) last year, as well. The tour will kick off on Oct. 24 in Atlanta, Ga. Tickets go on sale this Friday, Aug. 9.

You can see a full list of tour dates at the bottom. In the meanwhile, why don’t you check out Low Cut Connie’s excellent 2017 Paste Studio session?
