Graham Coxon, guitarist of Britpop legends Blur, joined bandmate Damon Albarn onstage during Albarn’s Gorillaz performance at the Demon Dayz Fest in Los Angeles on Oct. 20. The two gave a ripping rendition of Blur’s world-conquering anthem “Song 2.”
Coxon and Albarn formed Blur in the late ‘80s, and the band came to prominence as part of the “Britpop explosion” of the mid-’90s, where they competed in tense chart battles with fellow British brats Oasis. Albarn started Gorillaz in 1998 as a collaboration with comic-book artist Jamie Hewlett, who designed the band’s iconic animated characters. Albarn reformed Gorillaz in 2017 following a five-year hiatus. The Now Now, released earlier this year, was the band’s second album since reforming.
