Jason Isbell left the Drive-By Truckers in 2007, much to the disappointment of DBT fans everywhere. That same year, he released his debut album Sirens of the Ditch, proving to everyone that he’d do just fine as a solo artist. Now, Sirens of the Ditch (Deluxe Edition) is set to release July 13 via New West Records.
The original album features cameos from veteran session players at FAME Studios in Isbell’s hometown of Muscle Shoals, Ala. Drive-by Truckers’ Patterson Hood joins the four-time Grammy winner as a co-producer on the re-release of the album. DBT member Brad Morgan and former DBT member Shonna Tucker are also featured on the deluxe edition, contributing drums and bass, respectively.
Sirens’ forthcoming reissue will premiere four previously unreleased Isbell tracks;
“Racetrack Romeo”, “Crystal Clear”, “The Assassin” and “Whisper.” You can listen to two of the tracks, “The Assassin” and “Whisper,” down below.
“The Assassin” is a Hood composition that Isbell performs in concert to this day, while “Whisper” is a spent roots-rock ballad dedicated to the woman he should have “cried for.” Both tracks fit into the original soul-searching tale of struggling and finding redemption from Isbell’s original release of Sirens.
