Hitting both ends of the spectrum, this evening’s venues ranged from the two-story white marble staircase inside Jepson Center for the Arts to an outdoor stage in a backyard BBQ pit at Blowin’ Smoke. The genres spanned just as wide, from an otherworldly acoustic set by Brooklyn-based troubadour Christopher Paul Stelling (and accompanying songbird Julia Christgau), to a glitzy production from Montreal’s electro-wizardess Grimes—complete with a multi-tiered gear tower and a backup glam squad of shirtless boys in furry boas. The synthpop waves of Athens’ Electrophoria closed out the night in a black-lit laserium, and the after-party artists’ lounge raged into the early morning thanks to a wall-o-PBR behind the bar and a steady flow of dance tunes from the DJ booth.
