Daily Dose: Warbly Jets, "Shapeshifter"

Warbly Jets have released “Shapeshifter,” their first single since their self-titled debut album last year. The single comes as the band prepares to head into the studio to record their sophomore album.

That notion of transition has been weighing heavily on the band members’ minds. “On this new collection of songs, we made an effort to set no particular stylistic boundaries,” frontman Samuel Shea said in a statement. “As an artist I believe it’s extremely important to make drastic differences as you transition through phases.”

“Shapeshifter” finds the guys in Warbly Jets living up to their own self-prophesying, and trying on a host of different styles while they’re at it. The band is from New York, but their style is not limited to the here or the now. Their sound borrows as much from snotty, garage-rock revival bands like Jet as it does from some of the more raucous mid-’90s Britpop bands, with just a bit of California psychedelia thrown in. All the while, the music video plays reels of the band looking like extras from Andy Warhol’s Factory. It’s raucous, rowdy and a whole lot of fun. Check it out.

Warbly Jets have also released the tour dates for their 2019 tour—dates further down.
