Snapchat just announced a new partnership with Bitmoji to allow users to create custom geo-filters. If you’re unfamiliar with Bitmoji, it’s a personal emoji generator that lets you create an avatar and essentially translate yourself into the emojis you see on your smartphone keyboard.
Back in February, Snapchat launched an On-Demand Geofilter option that gave Snapchatters the ability to create (and pay for) personal custom Geofilters. Now, with their new partnership, Snapchat will allow users to add a Bitmoji to a customized Geofilter. Essentially, this means Snapchatters can personalize their events—like a birthday party, wedding or family event—with avatars that look like the people you’re celebrating.
When creating a Geofilter, you’re able to draw from a theme, such as Thanksgiving (Snapchat had templates for Halloween and will likely have templates for the holidays) and then customize it with your Bitmoji and text. You can also add friends if they have a Friendmoji created and connected to their Snapchat account. But in order for this to work properly, you do need to have a Bitmoji linked to your Snapchat account, as well as your friend, if you want to include them in your Geofilter.
Custom Geofilters cost around $5 for every 20,000 square feet with a maximum of 5,000,000 feet. The price can also increase depending on how long you want it to remain active. You are able to create and purchase more than one Geofilter for your event and it takes about one business day for the filter to be approved by Snapchat’s teams, which does so to ensure the filter meets design and technical standards.
When the Geofilter goes live you can track the statistics for total views and users of your filter. So now when those Live filters just don’t meet your standards, you can make your own Geofilters to take your Snapchat account to a whole new level. At least Snapchat finally found a way to make money!
