Claire Danes Confirms Homeland Will End With Season Eight

Claire Danes confirmed that her Golden Globe- and Emmy-winning series Homeland will end with season eight during a Sirius XM interview with Howard Stern, as reported by Deadline. Danes has won two Emmys and two Golden Globes for her impressive performance as the long-running show’s almost anti-protagonist Carrie Mathison.

The actress told Stern she is “conflicted” about the series coming to an end but that she’s “ready for a reprieve from that.” On describing her character, Danes said, “She’s a lot, this Carrie freakin’ Mathison character.” She’s “under constant duress” and “it’s a workout,” the actress said.

This news comes just as Danes also announced her second pregnancy with husband Hugh Dancy—the couple currently has a five-year-old son. Danes assures that her pregnancy will not affect production of the show.

Homeland has won a total of five Golden Globes, including Best Drama Series two years in a row for the show’s first two seasons. The series also won an Emmy for Best Drama Series in 2012 for its first season. The show’s creator and showrunner Alex Gansa also confirmed that the series will end with season eight but ultimately it is up to Showtime to make the decision. The network still has yet to officially announce the end of the show, which will return for it’s eight season in 2019.

What’s next for Danes? She will star in the Sundance-premiered film A Kid Like Jake opposite Jim Parsons and Octavia Spencer. The film is about a boy who is more interested in fairy tales and princesses than toy cars and action figures, leaving his parents (Danes and Parsons) to rethink their parenting strategy. The film arrives in theaters on June 8.

Homeland airs on Showtime at 9 p.m EDT on Sunday nights, and is currently nearing the end of its seventh season. Read Paste TV Editor Matt Brennan’s review of the latest episode here and hear Danes discuss the conclusion of the show below.
