Showtime Renews Jim Carrey Dark Comedy Kidding for a Second Season

Showtime announced Wednesday that Jim Carrey’s rookie comedy series, Kidding, has been renewed for a 10-episode second season.

Kidding follows Jeff Pickles (Carrey), an iconic figure in children’s television with a highly regarded, long-running show. Mr. Pickles is known to teach kindness and impart wisdom to America’s impressionable youth. However, when his family begins to implode, Jeff’s life is turned upside down as he must learn to cope with life and loss.

The well-received series only premiered last month, but it has thus far accumulated 2.3 million weekly viewers across the network’s linear and digital platforms, per THR.

Kidding marks the actor-comedian’s long-awaited return to TV after nearly three decades away. In addition to Carrey, the series stars Frank Langella, Catherine Keener, Judy Greer, Cole Allen and Juliet Morris.

The series marks the second collaboration between director and executive producer Michel Gondry and Carrey, who previously worked together on the critically acclaimed film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

Kidding has established itself as one of the most endearing and inventive shows on television,” said Showtime Networks programming resident Gary Levine in a statement. “I feel like I have been watching Mr. Pickles my whole life, and I look forward to being entranced by his unique blend of hilarity and heartbreak in season two.”

Kidding will continue its first season through its Nov. 11 finale, with new episodes airing Sunday nights at 10 p.m. ET on Showtime. Revisit our recent interview with creator Dave Holstein right here.
